The Ragin’ Cajun Water Ski Team are now Regional Champions and currently undefeated this season after winning this weekend’s regional tournament in Katy, Texas. Going in to the final event, the team had a 200 point lead over defending National Champions, the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhwaks. In the end, the Cajuns took the title by a strong 430 points.
Taking home his third men’s slalom win this season, Benjamin Stadlbaur scored 2 @ 39 off. Coming in right behind Stadlbaur was Dane Mechler with 1.5 @ 39 off, coming in fourth and fifth were Jaret Bull with 4.5 @ 38 off and Jonah Shaffer with 2 @ 38 off. Christopher Wharton also won for his third time this season in the men’s jump event with a distance of 169 feet and Cole Grant coming in fourth with a jump of 151 feet. In the men’s trick event, Brody Newton finished in third place with 3220 points.
In women’s competition, the Cajuns placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the slalom event with scores from Taryn Grant 2 @ 38 off, Giannina Bonnemann .5 @ 38 off and Charlotte Wharton 4.5 @ 35 off. The Cajun women also dominated in the jump event with three cajuns placing in the top 5! Grant won with a distance of 149 feet, Brittany Greenwood came in third with 138 feet and Wharton came in fourth with 136 feet. In the women’s trick event, Bonnemann placed second scoring 2890 points, followed by Greenwood scoring 2710 and Wharton with 2450.
Next week, the team will be heading to Cypress, Texas to compete in the National Championships. The event will kick off October 15 and run through the 17th at the Lakes at Cypress Hill Ski Community. The Ragin’ Cajun Water Ski Team has won 5 National Championships, and they are ready to take home another title!
