2018 NCWSA Nationals

Updated: Sep 24, 2020

This past weekend at the 2018 Connelly Skis Collegiate Nationals, the Cajuns skied their hearts out and fought hard all the way to the end.

During day 1, the team had some great slalom scores with freshman, Jaimee Bull winning the title. At the end of the day, the team didn't have the lead we were hoping for and we knew that we were going to have to bring it for day 2.

Day 2 came along with Men's Trick followed by Women's Jump. The men killed it on the water, with 3 men in the top 5 and freshman, Guillaume Tetrault winning the event. The women's jump team were up next on the water and everyone jumped a collegiate personal best! The ladies jumped their hearts out and left nothing behind.

Going into day 3, the team was down over 100 points and we knew that it was going to be a fight to come back. The women's trick team started the day off strong with some great trick runs and making up some of the difference the team was behind. Following was the men's jump team; with some challenging weather conditions, the men put everything on the line and jumped great! With 1 skier from ULM and 1 skier from Lafayette left to jump, there was only 5 points between the 2 teams. This made for a very exciting final event of nationals.

Unfortunately ULM ended up winning by a mere 60 points. The points were 12,175 to 12,115.

On top of the 2nd place team finish, the team had a total of 14 individual medals!

Every single team member, whether they were skiing or not, stepped up, cheered and supported their teammates, skied their best, and did the best they could to make the team and weekend a success. The team came together as one, uplifted each other in the hard times and cheered each other on in the good. This past weekend, the team really showed how much they care for each other and the sport. Even though we may not have won, everyone should raise their heads up high and be proud of this accomplishment.

We will be back next year hungrier than ever to take the title.

Thank you to San Marcos River Ranch, Texas A&M Water Ski Team, and Texas State Water Ski Team for hosting an amazing Nationals and to all of the officials and volunteers for making the weekend a great success. We all have memories that will last a lifetime.

A big thank you to Joe Spell for all the support you give to the team, Credeur’s Specialties for outfitting the team, and all the parents, grandparents, friends, family, and supporters of the Ragin’ Cajuns Water Ski Team. We appreciate you all and couldn’t do what we do without you. Thank you!

Geaux Cajuns!
